Privacy Policy

Effective October 16, 2026

OnPrompt is a teleprompter app for iPhone and Apple Watch, made by Edward Lukowsky ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the app uses, where it goes, and the choices you have.

The short version: your scripts, your voice and your face are processed on your iPhone and are not sent to us. We have no analytics, advertising or tracking code in the app, and we do not sell or share your personal information. The only things the app sends to our server are your subscription records and, if you turn on video sync, your account and your takes, which are encrypted on your iPhone before upload so we cannot watch or listen to them.

What stays on your iPhone

Scripts

Scripts you write, paste or import are stored in the app on your iPhone. We do not receive them. They are included in your iPhone's backups to iCloud or your computer if you back up your device, under Apple's terms.

Camera and microphone

OnPrompt uses the camera and microphone to record your takes. Recordings are saved in the app on your iPhone, and each video take is also added to your Photos library when you stop recording. Takes recorded with the camera off are audio only and stay in the app. The app asks only for permission to add to Photos, not to read your library.

With each take, the app keeps the words it heard and when it heard them, so it can make captions, find lines you started over and trim the silence at each end. This stays with the take on your iPhone.

Speech recognition

To follow along as you read, OnPrompt listens through the microphone and recognizes your words with Apple's speech recognition running on your iPhone. Your audio is not sent to us or to Apple for recognition. Your iPhone may download Apple's speech models for your language the first time you use it.

Voice profiles

When you set up a voice by reading a short passage, the app saves a profile of how you read: your pace, how long you pause at commas and periods, how loud your voice is compared to the room, how quickly recognition keeps up, and words the recognizer tends to mishear for you. It does not keep a recording of the reading, and the profile is not a voiceprint and cannot be used to identify you. If you leave learning on, later takes refine the profile. A voice also keeps the name you give it and which speakers in your scripts it reads. Profiles are stored on your iPhone, and you can delete them in Settings, Voices.

If you run a voice check from Settings, the app saves a log on your iPhone of the words it heard, their timing and sound levels, along with the script you read, your iPhone model and the name of the speech recognizer, so you can share it with us when reporting a problem. It is sent only if you share it yourself.

Faces

Automatic framing (Pro) finds where a person is in the frame to keep them centered when you crop a take. It uses Apple's Vision framework on your iPhone to locate faces and upper bodies. The app does not recognize who anyone is, does not create face templates, and does not save face positions; they are found again each time you review the take.

Smart cleanup

Smart cleanup (Pro) suggests edits to a script using Apple's on-device language model. Your script is not sent to us or to Apple for this.

Apple Watch remote

The Watch app (Pro) controls recording on your iPhone. Your iPhone sends the watch the script's title, the current and next lines and the recording state, and the watch sends back record, pause and line forward or back. The two talk directly through Apple's Watch connection, and nothing passes through us.

What reaches us

Subscriptions

Purchases are made through your Apple ID and processed by Apple. We never receive your payment details, name or Apple ID.

So that Pro features that rely on our server know your subscription is active, the app sends Apple's signed record of your OnPrompt purchase to our server, and Apple sends our server notices when a subscription renews, lapses, is refunded or changes. From these we store the transaction identifiers, the plan, the environment (App Store or test), the expiration and grace period dates, whether and when it was refunded or revoked, its status, whether it will renew, and a random account token that links the subscription to your video sync account if you have one. We also keep a record of each notice Apple sends us: its identifier, type, date and the transaction it refers to.

Video sync account (Pro)

Video sync is optional. To turn it on you sign in with Apple. OnPrompt does not ask Apple for your name or email address. We receive and store:

Synced takes (Pro)

When video sync is on, each take is encrypted on your iPhone with its own random key before upload. Takes recorded with the camera off are audio files and sync the same way. Each take's key is itself encrypted with a master key kept in your iCloud Keychain, which Apple syncs between your devices. We do not have your master key, so we and our storage provider hold only encrypted data that we cannot view or hear.

The recovery key the app can show you is a copy of your master key. Anyone who has it and your encrypted takes could decrypt them, so keep it private. If you copy it, your iPhone may share the clipboard with your other Apple devices through Universal Clipboard.

Along with each encrypted take we store its size, the number of upload chunks, its encrypted key, its upload status and the dates it was created and completed. Takes are stored with Cloudflare R2 under your account.

If you lose access to iCloud Keychain and your recovery key, your synced takes cannot be decrypted by you or by us.

Waitlist

If you join the OnPrompt waitlist on this website, we store your email address, send you a confirmation through our email provider, and may email you when OnPrompt launches. To limit abuse, we record the IP address a signup came from. Records more than a day old are deleted as new signups come in.

Server logs

Like any website or server, our hosting providers may record basic request details, such as IP address and time, in their logs to run and secure the service.

Crash reports from Apple

If you choose to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple provides us with crash reports and basic usage statistics. These come from Apple, are not linked to your identity, and you can turn them off at any time in Settings, Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements.

Services you connect

Some features connect OnPrompt to accounts you have with other companies. In each case the data goes directly between your iPhone and that company, signed in with your own account, and never through our server. That company's own terms and privacy policy apply to what you send it.

Google Docs (Pro)

If you connect Google Docs, you sign in with Google and grant access only to the Google Docs you pick in Google's file picker or that OnPrompt creates for you when you export a script. The app reads the text of the Docs you pick to import them as scripts, checks whether they have changed, and creates new Docs when you export. Your Google sign-in tokens are kept in your iPhone's Keychain. We never receive your Google data.

OnPrompt's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not use Google user data for advertising, do not sell it, do not let humans read it, and do not use it to train AI models. You can disconnect in OnPrompt's Settings, which also asks Google to revoke access, or remove OnPrompt at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

YouTube

If you upload a take to YouTube, you sign in with Google and grant permission to upload videos to your channel. The app sends the video, its title and the privacy setting you choose straight to YouTube. OnPrompt uses YouTube API Services; by uploading you agree to the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google's use of the video is covered by the Google Privacy Policy. Your tokens are kept in your iPhone's Keychain. You can revoke OnPrompt's access at security.google.com/settings/security/permissions.

TikTok, Instagram and Facebook

When you share a take to TikTok, the app saves it to your Photos library and opens TikTok with a reference to that video, where you finish and post it. TikTok's sharing also needs a return link to our server; if TikTok opens it, our server sees an ordinary web request, as described under Server logs. When you share to Instagram or Facebook Reels or Stories, the app places the video on your iPhone's clipboard for up to five minutes and opens their app. During that time your iPhone may share the clipboard with your other Apple devices through Universal Clipboard. Nothing is posted until you post it in their app.

Share sheet

Any other app you choose in the iOS share sheet, such as Messages or Mail, receives what you share under its own terms.

Security

Connections to our server use HTTPS. Takes are encrypted on your iPhone before upload, and our storage keys never ship in the app. Sign-in tokens are kept in the Keychain. No system is perfectly secure, but we limit what we collect so there is little to expose.

Children

OnPrompt is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Where data is processed

We are based in the United States. Our providers may process data in the United States and other countries where they operate.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will post the new version here with a new effective date.
